To coincide with the elections on June 5th, Inner City Organisations Network (ICON) is holding a voter education initiative called Ballots and Barbecue’.
The primary aim of ‘ Ballots and Barbecue’ is to try and increase awareness about the issues affecting people and how they can use the power of their vote as one way of trying to achieve change in society. We hope to stimulate interest not just among the participants but their families, political parties and candidates. It will also be an opportunity for first time voters to have a trial run in the voting process and enjoy a barbeque.
We are running the event at St Agatha’s Hall on Wednesday 20th May (2pm to 5pm) whereby people can vote in a mock local election. There will also be information available on the other 2 elections being held on the same day.
In the run-up to the St Agatha’s Hall event, some projects have held discussion sessions in their own club ON ISSUES THAT THEY WANT ADDRESSED BY POLITICIANS AND SOCIETY and how to register and actually vote, if not now then in the future. A voter registration drive also took place in Ballybough on 12th May.
In order to participate we request that projects and participants register with ICON before Tuesday 19th May.
There are posters attached to this email and please contact ICON if you require any further information.
